In Maldestre Magistral we want to explore absurdity through the play of chain reactions. Building to destroy, turning it into something utterly unproductive. Playing with expectation from an ironic standpoint, with a sarcastic tone towards virtuosity, turning error into virtue and the clumsy into the masterful.
We conceive this game of actions and reactions as a space where actions become unproductive, where building and destroying are inseparable processes that generate meanings beyond efficiency or purpose.
We work with the idea of an orchestra of objects and bodies which, through a chain reaction, turns disorder and error into unexpected virtuosity. Objects and bodies become instruments of irony, humour and sarcasm, questioning the hierarchies of technical mastery and aesthetic perfection. Creating a paradoxical space where that which we consider erroneous, disordered, clumsy or chaotic becomes virtuosic, turning every action into a small poetic disaster.
The chain reaction imposes an almost mechanical rigidity, whereas playfulness provokes an unpredictable fluidity. From the clash between these, the absurd emerges and shapes an aesthetic of movement based on a constant tension between control and loss of control.
Thus, through the physical concept of a chain reaction, the project proposes a poetic reflection on imperfection, turning apparent chaos into virtuosity.
This project arises from a desire for reconnection: among ourselves, but also with shared interests that emerged years ago when we were studying together, and which each of us has since pursued in different directions. Now we feel the need to take them up again. At the same time, this reunion expresses the desire to return to the territory, to reconnect with the local artistic community and to link up with the emerging scene taking place there. This project gets under way as a residency at the l'Arreplegada 2025 festival.
